Rapoport Academy Elementary launched the "Ravens Reading Challenge" this year to engage students in Pre-K - 4th grade with reading a wide range of books over the school year with the BIG goal of finishing 100 books.
Many students joined the challenge, and 14 completed the big 100-book goal this year. To celebrate this achievement, students who completed both 100 books and 75 books enjoyed an ice cream party and received a certificate, a goodie bag, and a book donated by Barnes & Noble.
"It was so exciting to celebrate our top PreK - 4th-grade readers of the Raven Reading Challenge this week! What great effort and determination to complete all four bingo cards," said Theresa Jurls, Library, Art, and Music Specialist for Rapoport Elementary
In the fall, Jurls was awarded a $4,000 grant to promote youth literacy from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and she launched the bingo card reading challenge for all elementary students.
"We are so grateful for the generosity of Dollar General, Barnes & Noble, Cane's, Baskin-Robbins, and Panda Express who helped provide incentives for our readers," Jurls said. "We will have the Reading Challenge again next school year, and I look forward to celebrating even more readers in 2024!"
