January-Goal Setting in the New Year

Happy New Year! We hope you enjoyed your holiday break, and we're excited to start another semester!

The beginning of a new year is a time for new beginnings and a great time for self-reflection. Many people set goals and resolutions at the beginning of the new year. But setting goals can be difficult, especially when kids and teens are still developing their ability to organize and plan. However, goal setting helps kids and teens learn to reflect, plan ahead, and feel accomplished. Getting started can be challenging but doing some reflection can help students find inspiration for goals. Here are some things to consider as you talk to your family about goals this new year

  1. Have a conversation with your kid and teen about what is important to them.

  • What are you looking forward to this year?

  • What inspires you?

     2. Ask them about the things that went well and celebrate!

  • What are you most proud of this past year?

     3.  Get curious about things they want to change or get better at.

  • What were some challenges you faced? How did you get through it?

You want your goals to be S.M.A.R.T.

Sometimes, the goals we work towards seem out of reach, but making SMART goals can help us plan effectively and accomplish what we want.
